  16. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 says that services must be provided with reasonable care and skill.

  23. True…. but the overall cost is much higher, than if you just kept a healthy rate of inflation. you can read more here https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/explainers/what-is-inflation

    such as

“A low and stable rate of inflation helps to create a healthy economy.

The Government sets a target for how much prices overall should go up each year in the UK. That target is 2%. It’s the Bank of England job to keep inflation at that target.

A little bit of inflation is helpful. But high and unstable rates of inflation can be harmful.

If prices are unpredictable, it is difficult for people to plan how much they can spend, save or invest.

In extreme cases, high and volatile inflation can cause an economy to collapse. Zimbabwe is a good example. It experienced this in 2007-2009 when the price level increased by around 80 billion per cent in a single month.

As a result, people simply refused to use Zimbabwean banknotes and the economy ground to a halt.”

  24. Sorry, had to add this pic to the idea

  25. Andrew, learned from Mark Thatcher how to sell arms. Wicked men. “We are concerned that Prince Andrew is used to sell arms, and where you sell arms it is likely to be to despotic regimes. He is the cheerleader in chief for the arms industry, shaking hands and paving the way for the salesmen.”

  26. I wonder if she wished she wasn’t the only one to be immune from prosecution – Ironically she hasn’t put a foot wrong, while all those around her have. 30. Public funding increases the distance between political elites (party leadership, candidates) and ordinary citizens (party members, supporters, voters). Not sure why “the people” haven’t solved this one yet. It kind of matters.

  31. Smith has been debunked so many times already. You just got to read up on what has happened since his ideas were championed by those in power – and what happens to people who try to correct this basic mistake. Go Chomsky and others who bother learning and being compassionate, which is also something Smith had problems with.

  32. Pensioners get more than half of our government spending. They are only a third of the population. This is how the government try to get some back for the rest of us.

  33. The irony! Some of these guys want to expel Trump after impeachment. Where the hell to? You created him, you keep him.

  34. RudeJude

Too little too late. Everyone is still laughing at America, they deserved that trashing, the rest of the world didn’t. You won’t be able to bring back the people he killed with Covid, which was quite a record other despots would be proud of! Come on kids, forget what daddy taught you, he is thick as shit too.

  35. 8-BIT BOBBY

It’s a thing already, bit late though. Not like the US hasn’t been trashed by gangs, organised crime and corruption, since we made the damned country for them and watched them trash it. Anyways, this is what the official site says…

“Fix the System partners are currently pressing Congress to fund safe, fair and secure elections, supporting access to early voting and absentee voting options in the wake of the pandemic, galvanizing the business community for democracy reform, and fighting to end gerrymandering to lay the groundwork for a healthy political system.”

  36. 23% of all homeless people are children – Our world sucks ass. We have had plenty enough time to sort this out in each and every country. Not going to happen.

  37. You would be missing a lot of trade if you did this. Problem is that it’s tolerated. From wiki “Street children can be found in a large majority of the world’s famous cities, with the phenomenon more prevalent in densely populated urban hubs of developing or economically unstable regions, such as countries in Africa, South America, Eastern Europe, and Southeast Asia.”

  38. Good idea, plus make when they fix their ways and you start to trade with them again, increase the tariff and donate a share of it to Save the Children – an publicise it, they should be ashamed.

  40. Unrelated to the idea but it reminded me of this, which is what they need to clean them with.

  41. Not sure who would dish out the licences, but you wouldn’t need one. None of the existing countries asked for permission, the trick is being recognised by others as one. Nice idea though, if I was Rich I would consider going it alone. I think Richard Brandson created his own island in order to do that – no not the virgin islands lol.

  42. Asgardia is a self-proclaimed “Space Nation”. Not sure what exactly that means but they didn’t get a licence and only really need to be recognised as a nation. However it is borderless, so anyone that claims to be an Asgardian is still under the jurisdiction of their actual nation.

  43. Currently you don’t need a licence to start your own country, state or nation, however it will only be recognised as such if you convince other nations to recognise you as a sovreign entity and to do that you would most likely need to join the UN. So not that likely, but it has been done…

  44. Branson did buy an island to impress a woman, he didn’t build it and he won’t be able to turn it into a country. Agreed, no licences are needed, but why not? Should be allowable if you own it and nobody that lives there objects.

  45. UK is just as bad – however, at least these appointed judges declare some of the things the PM does is illegal. Once in a while. I agree I want to vote for a judge, rather than let the current PM pick them.

  46. “Where the Executive and Legislative branches are elected by the people, members of the Judicial Branch are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate” We know, but WHY?

  47. djloon

Sort of laughed when I saw this idea, google’d it and realised its a thing.

  48. I don’t like how corporations get to control the supply of clean water, that makes it in their interest to limit it in order sell more bottled water. Governments should definitely administer this and provide a state sponsored alternative to bottled water.

  49. Great idea, Pakistan is leading the way with this, others should follow their lead.

  50. Sounds reasonable on first view but the CPI isn’t a good measure of how well things are going – plus, what if the previous administration messed up and things skydive? Then you would only have politicians who don’t need the money- because they have plenty already.

  51. Hmm correlation or causation. tricky to know if retiring early makes you last longer, I suppose it is bound to.

  52. Didn’t think of that, but the old idea of ditching income tax has its merits too. After all, it’s not a crime to make money, just to spend it.

  53. Not if it sways the vote away from your guy…. Sunday’s order came as little surprise after the state’s supreme court on Oct. 22 denied a similar request to halt drive-through voting, in a lawsuit filed by the Republican parties of Texas and Harris County.

  54. ‘No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.…’

  56. Interesting, both the US and UK are more dissatisfied than satisfied with how parliamentary democracy panned out. Time for a rethink, but despite the US being a republic rather than a democracy, it seems offering an alternative is unamerican. Times are changing though.

  57. Tax Payer’s Alliance is under the impression that most Govt waste is due to “foreign aid”, totally unaware that “aid” means giving weapons to strategic partners, and NOT giving it to help destroyed communities find a way to get clean water and education for the innocent kids. This is a minor cost of ruling the world, thick as shit.

  63. Damned if you do, Damned if you don’t. Govt is at the whim of rich lobbyists that won’t give up on the dreaded weed gravy train. Good idea though, not gonna happen.

  64. Jail breeds crime = more customers for the businesses that profit from correction facilities…. “A U.S. Sentencing Commission report on recidivism among federal prisoners, released on January 24, 2019, showed that nearly 64% of prisoners who had been convicted of violent offenses were arrested within eight years compared with about 40% of those convicted of nonviolent offenses”

  67. Damned if you do, Damned if you don’t. Govt is at the whim of rich lobbyists that won’t give up on the dreaded weed gravy train. Good idea though, not gonna happen.

  68. As criminal Conrad Black said years ago: “If Boris wants to run for No 10, the Telegraph is behind him.” But nobody took him seriously. As the guest ruefully observed: “Everybody puddled themselves with guffawing laughter of disbelief at the very thought.”

  69. COVID could be a bit of a blessing when it comes to bringing all of humanity together to fight a common enemy.

  71. Yeah, they should have to submit their spend before election is called in order to qualify – or be disqualified. Cheating shouldn’t be rewarded in this case, its too important.

“Likewise, if the Commission’s incorrect interpretation of the law effectively allowed the official Leave Campaign to spend more than the official Remain campaign, then Remainers have significant grounds for grievance.

At the centre of all of this sit the Electoral Commission, who do seem to have blundered. There have been some loud calls for a serious shake up there from both sides of this quarrel today, and I have some sympathy for that.”

  72. looks like rich landowners have managed to lobby the government into giving themselves another extra bonus. Crazy, spend it on affordable housing so they can’t keep upping the price of houses and keeping the majority of the population renting, and funding the rich.

  73. Yeah, its a scam that channels more of the welfare budget to the rich – and at the same time demonising those who can’t find work.

” At over £25 billion it is one of the biggest and fastest-growing parts of the welfare bill. That is a huge sum of money: more than we spend on the police, roads and buying military equipment combined. “

  74. Chief whips are the real chaos merchants. Quote from a former tory chief bully boy:

“Problems involving members “might be debt, or it might be a scandal involving small boys”.

“They would come and ask if we could help,” Fortescue said. “And if we could we did, and we would do everything we could, because we could store up brownie points.

“That’s one of the reasons we would get a chap out of trouble – because he’d then be ours forever-more.”

  76. “former” thug Vlad the imposter.

  77. Currently the CIA only releases declassified information as and when it is useful to them. They should have a daily release for everything that is now in the public domain for sure.

  78. Streetcleaner, KGB agent, singer on a cruise ship, the Donald. There is hope for “we the people” yet!

  79. I read this one, which gives the impression they should be watched around the clock. Since Thatcher reinvented the role as “cabinet enforcers” and my local MP was a tory chief whip, no MP is likely to get a free vote. Great book btw.
