Anyone can donate any amount to any party, but once the cap is reached the remaining funds get split between the other parties.

Public funding increases the distance between political elites (party leadership, candidates) and ordinary citizens (party members, supporters, voters). Not sure why “the people” haven’t solved this one yet. It kind of matters.
