  1. Mr N

I also found this online platform that delivers “imperfect groceries” that would otherwise be thrown away to consumers.

  2. Mr N

Wow! This app takes excess food and offers it to consumers at reduced prices.

  3. Mr N

Take a look at this startup that sells software that connects food redistribution organizations to surplus food.

  4. In the United Kingdom, the idea of community gardens (allotments) to feed the less fortunate society members goes all the way back to the medieval period.

  5. I love this idea of community food parks in urban areas to feed the homeless.

  6. Check out this organization that delivers donated flowers to seniors and veterans.

  7. Interesting, I guess the last thing we want to do is wish ill on the rich amongst us. BUT with the current set-up, the sooner they die the better, if you consider the worthy benefactors that will die before being saved.

  8. Agreed, and from this article “Between the two extremes of billionaires’ charities and the public’s spare change exist a broad spectrum of philanthropists supporting a multitude of charitable concerns. To assist philanthropists in reaching those in need, community foundations have sprung up in some UK counties. For example, the work of the Essex Community Foundation involves “identifying common interests and developing strategies designed to bring philanthropists closer to the work of recipients.”

  9. I like how the Laudes strategy is designed to help accelerate the existing movement towards a climate-positive and inclusive economy. Which will help alleviate the need for charity.

  10. great idea, i never thought of that. just searched and heard about this, not sure if it survived covid or not, any ideas if there is a map of charity pubs in the UK?

  11. Why are these not a thing yet? They are very rare, though there are charity shops everywhere. I don’t get it.

  12. Warren Buffett’s son says charity fuels a ‘perpetual poverty machine’ and rich people giving money away eases their conscience but doesn’t solve the problem.

  13. So true, I wonder when we will make use of this idea and make the world as good as it could be for those who are less fortunate. Not too soon I guess, it’s just business as usual.

  14. Keep up – from 10 years ago “Pope Benedict’s acknowledgement that using condoms may be justified to stop the spread of AIDS did not signify a change in the Catholic Church’s ban on their use as contraception.

  15. This is likely on it’s way. Not sure if it needs AI to find prospective parents though as the database of people who are willing to adopt is likely pretty small. This is worth a read though, AI could help potentially.

  16. DeLay

I get the point of this idea but surely there would be no objection to giving to children’s charities. Which are btw more important than animals and plants – REMEMBER.

  17. Didn’t realise this existed. or that people gifted each other stock and shares. Interesting how it is coming along now we better apprecite we should give to charity, rather than we should trust the government to give some of our money to charity. Big difference.

  18. Are these a thing already? or still? They could use one of these out of the box quiz makers.

  19. I like this idea. There used to be a site called free rice that used to do a similar thing, not sure if they still do it as the site has since changed. It would be good if say, Save The Children had a sister site with quizzes for kids and adults, that generated and donated any ad revenue it gained. Do things like this still exist? Add the link if they do, I love doing quizzes and especially if someone else benefits too.

  20. just our luck…

  21. got to say this was a good idea, it should be a regular thing.

  22. It’s got to be a thing. There are buyers out there already. Odd though.

  23. Not sure if the Royal Mail would bother with the hassle of charging more for a standard priced stamp, but it would work if it was allowed to. A stamp could look something like the one here.

  24. More info on donating normal postage stamps here. https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/news/article-7526527/Stick-Stamps-want-raise-cash-charity.html

  25. Good idea. there is also this way charities can cash in on stamps – I didn’t realise it was done by weight though: “Stamps are sold by weight, meaning that many charities can turn old ones into funds to help their ongoing work. Simply cut the stamp off the envelope, making sure to leave approximately 1cm of envelope bordering the stamp, and post to the correct address.”

  26. Who could say no? Until they start hardwiring their circuits to get a buzz from the charity.

  27. Fortunately Save the Children still accept one-off donations in cash. It makes the others seem a little ungrateful knowing they only want to know if you set them up with a continuous stream of funding from your bank. How the world has changed. Donate to savey, as we used to call it back in the day when they were the only charity shop in town.

  28. True, but they should accept both or they will miss out on a huge stack of funding they need. I read this recently and it spells it out,

  29. “Cash donations peak in certain months of the year, for example, November and December, where 51% of people say they’ve given this way in the last four weeks. This compares to 42% in an average month across the year.”

  30. The UK is lagging behind on this for sure. No mention of what we are doing to cut the waste. And it is unlikely we will now that Europe isn’t ruling us properly.

  31. Mike

Online Gambling sites for international children’s charities should be a thing. Who cares that you can’t do it in the US. The rest of the world spend heaps on online gambling and this money could go where it is needed. Some big charities should get together with online gambling sites and set one up, they are missing a trick and a stack of money they could have a nice slice of.

  32. djloon

Nice idea, I wonder why these are not a thing. You can hire a Casino in Las Vagas, but something tells me, they get to keep all the money that comes into the machines. Someone like Musk, Bezos or Gates should set one up for irradiating children’s diseases, or a whole holiday park that collects money to solve the world’s problems. I would go to that rather than Disney.

  33. The health lottery is as close as you will get in the UK.Though its legal to do fun runs and bingo nights lol – doesn’t compare with the entire industry of casinos for private profit. The health lottery is a first step though I guess.

  34. 23% of all homeless people are children – Our world sucks ass. We have had plenty enough time to sort this out in each and every country. Not going to happen.

  35. You would be missing a lot of trade if you did this. Problem is that it’s tolerated. From wiki “Street children can be found in a large majority of the world’s famous cities, with the phenomenon more prevalent in densely populated urban hubs of developing or economically unstable regions, such as countries in Africa, South America, Eastern Europe, and Southeast Asia.”

  36. Good idea, plus make when they fix their ways and you start to trade with them again, increase the tariff and donate a share of it to Save the Children – an publicise it, they should be ashamed.

  37. Hey babies, if you don’t like America… Get the hell out, somehow.

  38. Agreed, and global ones for places where kids don’t have food – to compensate giving to adults that don’t try hard enough to find money to feed their kids in well off countries, which shopping malls.

  39. Would need to be secure as Oxfam get scammed by people pretending to be them, someone could just change the number on a sign and sneak off with their donations.

  40. Givetide should do this, though not sure how they would spot which charities you shouldn’t give to if you already give to one regularly. Nice idea but difficult to implement I guess.

  41. Most charities don’t have “opposing” charities. There is never a reason not to give to those less fortunate than yourself. Christian or not. Give to Oxfam they do great work and can be trusted always.

  42. Cancer Fund of America only gives 2.5% of its donations to support the families of cancer victims and fund cancer research. There should also be an app that stops you from donating to “Charities” that are run by crooks.

  43. Why do Starbucks give money to trans-rights groups? Children are starving in countries they get their resources. Deforestation, disease, poverty, don’t they matter anymore? Not against anyone’s rights by the way but get a grip on what matters most.

  44. I like this idea, who knows if I am sending money to 2 different causes that are pulling in different directions. Anyways, I thought this was interesting. Republicans give more, and not because they make more.

  45. Prizes totalling £45,000 have just been allocted to innovators from commonwealth member countries who suggest forward-looking solutions, which advance their values. Nobel should follow in these footsteps for sure – sustainable development wasn’t even a thing when the prize was set up.

  46. Agreed, would be a good idea to have a specific Nobel Prize category just for sustainable development. As far as I can see on their site one one winner has been “for contribution to sustainable development, democracy and peace.”

  47. Steve Divnik invented the spiral waterless wishing well amonst other things. I am sure he would approve of this idea especially if your money landed in 1 of say, 4 different holes – which would share the money out between 4 good causes without one being the lucky one that got their wishing well placed in the shopping mall.

  48. Bless them the UK Rotary Club provide these to shopping centres and give the proceeds to charity, how commendable.

  49. Careful what you wish for, imagine being the victim of future blood mugging crime – “The global market – worth $23.6bn in 2016 – is predicted to almost double to $44.3bn by 2023.”

  50. You do get paid in the UK. “You will be paid up to £100 for donating 600 mls of blood or a proportional amount if less blood has been donated, i.e. £50 for 300 mls.”

  51. Would be good if they gave some of the proceeds to local projects like Liam’s Lunches too.

  52. Top of the global list ..”distributed more than 1.3 billion US dollars for research, innovation, treatment, education and humanitarian and social purposes.” BUT “have a net worth of $59.89 billion”

  53. Wow Church Commissioners are milking it in the states – in the top 6 atm, funny old world. Cheers America!

  54. Is “Swirly McWindface” allowed? If so, you got my dollar.

  55. They have a fair bit of catching up to do, to be fair. Pop stars may be better at distributing wealth than politicians. But yeah, a site that lets them bid highest to be at the top would serve their egos and publicity requirements all in one go. Does a site like this already exist?

  56. Yes, good idea but keep it more like save the children with old women volunteers that care rather than the young hip rich kids with spare time that seem to have pushed the old dears out of Oxfam.

  57. Rather than second-hand clothes, they should just sell their own branded apparel – made from biodegradable materials that are being developed – like marine tex. The number of bags I see people wearing is increasing and GP is such a great brand to lots of people with money to spend and images to maintain.

  58. ….dream on AirTots 57 quid to borrow a baby bath and stand for 4 weeks. No wonder folk just buy them or go elsewhere to hire.

  59. Hmmm, still not sure if they fixed this…. “Only 5,000 of the 15,000 shelters that UNHCR bought in 2015 have been deployed, meaning that two thirds of all shelters manufactured, worth a total of $12.5 million, have yet to be used.

The rest have remained in depots while it carried out an investigation into fire safety and other problems, UNCHR told Dezeen.”

  60. You just need a scaled-down cut-out image of the building from above, then use a guide to follow the shape of the jig – to allow the material to fall in the right place, you could even sell lots of 1-metre square jigs of different shapes of a building, for example, the castle.

  61. This can print a house for 4 grand. But the machine is so expensive that its no use to those who need housing the most.

  62. They should do this already. For Atlantic hurricanes, there is a list of male and female names which are used on a six-year rotation. It could be updated to include names of benefactors that want to help for a bit of recognition.

  63. This idea would also work with other businesses. Check out this program that allows people to donate unused meal vouchers to the Red Cross.
    https://media.edenred.com/donate-your-expired-2018-meal-vouchers-french-red-cross/

  64. I found this online platform that lets people donate unused or unwanted gift cards.
    https://fundraising.co.uk/2015/12/16/giveagift-turns-unwanted-gift-cards-into-donations/

  65. Check out this app that turns lost sports bets between friends into charitable donations. Plus, it allows small bets of even $1.
