Correct, the butterfly effect – sweet chaos! Read this, it’s worth it and may give you some inspiration next time you are in a jam!
“A team from the University of Bristol, led by Dr Eddie Wilson, concluded that under the right conditions, one motorist’s bad driving can create “a traffic tsunami which can affect traffic up to 50 miles away”.”
The reasons why traffic jams happen for no apparent reason
Ahhh, finally found the YouTube comment that explains why we get traffic waves. Chaos!
“This still wasn’t explained as well as it could have been. The reason the wave spreads is because the cars at the front of the jam accelerate more slowly then the cars at the back of the jam can decelerate by hitting their breaks.
This is partially caused by slower reaction times when accelerating compared to decelerating and partially caused by the fact that all vehicles accelerate less rapidly then they decelerate in the mechanical sense.
The best thing is for people coming up to a jam is to maintain a constant speed that allows them to arrive at the jam just as the last car in it dissipates. “

Parking related bumps now account for more than 30 per cent of accidents in 2016. And it’s estimated there are approaching one million car parking collisions every year. These cost drivers nearly £2bn a year.”
Small parking bays for cars: does yours fit the space? - Green Flag
An increasing number of parking prangs could be down to the size of parking bays. New research shows many new cars are too big for standard space sizes.
Oversized people have to pay more on aeroplanes, why don’t small car people get to pay less to park? Ramp up the costs for greedy big car owners is the ideal solution, and yes, will different sized bays – nowadays some cars are twice the size of others, at a cost to everyone else.
Cars are getting bigger, not smaller. Though the bays are staying the size they were 50 years ago. So instead, just have less parking spaces, after all roads are for driving on, not parking your cars.
Are 1970 parking bay sizes big enough? Cars are up to 55% bigger today
Parking guidelines haven’t changed in 50 years, with the requirement for public bays to be 8 feet wide by 16 feet long. Some of the biggest SUVs on sale today take up 90% of this available space.

LPG fuel is an excellent alternative to petrol and diesel. Some people have safety concerns, but as this video shows, proper conversion of your can prevent this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AG4JwbK3-q0
You don’t have to even buy an autogas car. You can have your car converted to run on LPG. Check out the conversion process here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxlzPyztWCI
Using LGP as fuel sounds incredible and has several benefits over petrol and diesel fuels. The gas is cheaper, the engines run silent, and the gas emits less CO2 into the air. Check out this article on the benefits of autogas. https://www.begasmotor.com/what-is-lpg-autogas-what-advantages-does-it-have-frequent-questions/
Not having to visit an auto shop every other time for minor repairs sounds like heaven. Check out this article on car self-healing technology that uses microcapsules that release a healing agent when broken. https://www.popsci.com/scitech/article/2004-12/car-repairs-itself/
Here is another self-healing car. This one uses a paint protection film that repairs scratches and cracks when exposed to sun or heat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPgXBWAst-A
Sounds out of this world, but the tech is being researched. Lamborghini is designing a car whose body panels are made of carbon nanotubes that store electricity. They can detect any cracks in the structure and self-heal by heating themselves.
There are portable solar-powered car AC coolers that you can buy! Check out one here https://www.amazon.com/MASO-Powered-Exhaust-Radiator-Purifiers/dp/B07TXH7HMP
Check out this DIY solar-powered AC unit. The system is quite cumbersome, but a great idea nonetheless. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BL74J9X6Das
Solar-powered air conditioning is a gamechanger as it means you can keep your car cool without running the risk of draining the battery during an idle park.
A parachute built into the motorcycle and rider suite can be a great safety feature. Could help riders bail from imminent accidents, saving their lives.
Amazing. The British used parachute motorcycles during World War II for special operation units. This could be a great concept today with the way electric motors and battery technology have advanced. Check out this video here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrEi9IouSeg
Could come in handy for extreme adventure junkies looking to go cliff diving with their motorcycles.
Didn’t even think of this but yeah, great idea. Just googled it and its in hte pipeline for standard cars – this is good for now though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9Nm5ZnSbTM
Very old idea – look at this oldy worldy version from way back.
Here’s a review of the HUD. Looks pretty good.
Yeah, they exist. Don’t have one but they look like something a pilot would use.
Wow, I didn’t realise these existed. Looks quite good.
Anyone use this?
Sounds like someone should make thes crash thing into a simple app the police can use aswell.
Theres this already(?)
Nice video on how a single driver can stop jams. Should be built into cars to be honest, it would save lives.
Looks like a good idea. Would be great in many cities for sure.
China beat us to it, again.
Councils would use it to spend our money to stop us travelling on roads we have already paid for. Read the article here https://www.theargus.co.uk/news/19030419.londons-cycle-lanes-unlawful—mean-brighton/
“Justice Lang ruled that Streetspace (cycle lane scheme in London) “took advantage of the pandemic” to push through “radical” and permanent changes to London’s roads. And a lawyer in the case said the scheme – and others like it – could now be scrapped across the UK.”
I thought this after visiting the High Line in NYC. Cyclists, scooterers and skaters should be welcomed. It would reduce the number of crossings needed in busy inner-city areas and also provide each street with 2 levels of shopfront.
read about this SKYLINE idea a while back, could work in some places. I would use them rather than be stuck amongst all those cars.
Read this, some lanes, such as those leading off the highway do have different speed limits. So this idea already exists, in places.
in theory a good idea but as the linked to report shows, it confuses people and discourages them to get in the inner lane, as soon as they can.
Ahem, fat arsed Nissan Navara owners… “The Accident Exchange claims parking prangs have increased by 35 per cent since 2014. Parking related bumps now account for more than 30 per cent of accidents in 2016. And it’s estimated there are approaching one million car parking collisions every year. These cost drivers nearly £2bn a year.”
Wow, according to this, 11 teenagers die every day due to texting and driving. it’s definitely worth adding the signs and text stops in hot spot areas.
Old idea, not sure why it didn’t catch on.
Not going to happen as its impossible to police, but car sharing will get more common the more expensive motoring is for single people.
Just share your ride and half the cost. Easy
You can do this and there’s an app for it.
“Smart” mirrors from Amazon reviewed on YouTube.
Huge number of applications for AU. Some useful some flippant. You, the consumer decide which is which.
“mirrors” or “digital displays” as many are now calling them. The days of shiny silver on glass are coming to an end. AU will be able to add so much more information we miss using oldy worldy mirrors. Check out what AUDI have been doing here https://www.flexenable.com/blog/digital-side-view-mirrors-come-to-life/
More than just an idea, coming to a car near you soon!
Bosch tried this in 2016. Never used one so dunno if it is any good.
Aha, they are called active gas pedals. As long as they allow you to accelerate out of trouble then why not?
Looks like there is a patent for this, probably doesn’t need AI though.
These tyres fix themselves, no need for super strength.
They exist, but its a bit overkill using Kevlar, especially for bicycles.
The jury is still out on whether this is a good idea or not, see the discussion on Quora. Some say good, some not so good.
Now the petrochemical industry scammers have been knocked off the rich-list the options are going to open right up. The future is waiting for us to embrace it. Finally.
Hydrogen is the answer, just need Musk to realise it.
I agree, until electricity is made greenly you are better off using one of the other alternatives to gas. Here is a decent list of options https://fortune.com/2013/11/01/10-alternatives-to-the-gasoline-powered-engine/
also get a free shirt when you buy parts. heh
Not sure how many deaths Boris will accept till they decide to review the situation. But these are avoidable deaths.
This call from a guy stuck without a hard-shoulder is chilling. This is crazy.
And beware of scammers. It’s not just bad weather that pisses on your parade on the big day.
Lol, this pic.
It’s crazy that the DVLA cancel driving tests because of weather you are likely to face on the road anyways. And if they cancel more than 3 days before the test, you won’t get a refund, so you just took a day off work for nothing. I wish I could just cancel my work and put my feet up because of a bit of snow.
In the UK, unless you rack up over 7000 miles per year, you are going to be overcharged. Another incentive to burn fossil fuels at the cost of others. I can’t wait until the petrochemical industry guys get stung up, they have already been knocked off the rich-list by digital pioneers. There day will come.
Premiums ARE based on milage, somewhat.
Some say they are a great idea. I’ve never been on one though.
I don’t like them. for the same reason this guy has. Trucks try to switch lanes at the last minute. Horrible to experience close-hand.
There are already better solutions available. This article spells them out.
Could be dangerous adding all that water to the road surface, unless you used something like a water repellant covering.

(1 upvotes)In wales the vast majority believe in mandatory tests every 10 years, though they see fewer accidents from oldies than most places.
You can sign a petition to force people to take it every 10 years, but that’s the full test. They would get more votes if it was just the theory test for sure.
It wouldn’t be difficult to implement as you can already do the test online anyways. Here’s a link to it https://www.safedrivingforlife.info/take-official-free-practice-driving-theory-test/car-practice-theory-tests/car-practice-test-one?policies-synced=synced
This is amasing – better is that eco-activists and artists with laser lighting equipment could go around projecting environmental messages onto waterfalls in inner-city fountains near busy roads.
Saw the idea of projecting on to water years ago and often wondered what real-life applications it could have. So I guess this is it. Any more examples on how this could be used?
So cool, in the UK, you would just need the projector and use the regular rain 😉
You can’t project lasers onto nothing, but you can use clouds or mist like this idea https://ideamill.info/waterfall-road-signs/
Probably too much distraction on the road but I am surprised some show-off Americans haven’t used this tech to fly their flag or just generally pose to anyone who is looking. Does look amazing though.
Cool – Why are these not a thing? And motorbikes, bicycles, skateboards and the rest….
These came out ages ago, but I haven’t seen a single one of them in the street.
We should have these crossing laser walls on the end of groins and piers in Brighton, and the gay lights they have in Madrid.
The UK has a cheaper solution, ain’t seen one of these but there was one in London.
Would be good if they played a sound while you crossed too!
Think its just a concept/idea rather than a thing. Though not sure. It says in the Wired article that it could project silhouettes of the pedestrians behind it, so the motorists are aware that there are lives behind the barrier, that don’t want to be extinguished. Would this type of thing help though? Motorists that ignore lights are just as likely to ignore laser lights too right?
Wow, I found this from a Google reverse image search. It’s a “virtual wall” and looks like they made it over a decade ago, why aren’t they all over the place already?
Range and re-charge time are always going to be a problem with lecky motorbikes. Not quite nailed it yet.
Get with the program man, there are heaps of them out there already, some are just amazing.
This is crazy, no wonder progress gets hindered constantly. DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS
Not if it sways the vote away from your guy…. Sunday’s order came as little surprise after the state’s supreme court on Oct. 22 denied a similar request to halt drive-through voting, in a lawsuit filed by the Republican parties of Texas and Harris County.
Says here they are in use already – “The famous ‘Van Gogh Village’ uses Tvilight CitySense”
Old idea, but yeah, LED lights would work well for this.
Not sure if this is still the case but it took 20 minutes to get street lamps to light up efficiently, maybe that has changed with LEDs?
Bad idea – just use the police for what they are paid for – if Artificial Intelligence gets control of this it will be turned into a major revenue stream regardless of it it helps anybody. Be warned…
“It is argued that cameras penalise “innocent” speeders, while doing nothing to deter more serious traffic offenders, such as uninsured and drunk drivers. Many have claimed that the rise of speed cameras has been paralleled by a reduction in conventional traffic policing.”
WHAT? And give the police another way to profit rather than reduce crime?
cool they exist, just stick them over the back seats.
How about raising parking fees for all private vehicles? This could encourage the use of public transportation, lead to less traffic congestion, and potentially reduce carbon emissions.
THIS…
Guess most people don’t have a batmobile car – surprised Ford or others don’t do this, its cool free advertising for sure.
Better idea may be to incorporate it with the vest – hit something on the glove and both indicate which way you intend to turn.
Why not make the entire glove light up? Motorists behind don’t care if it shows an arrow. just give them enough light that flashes.
This is the type of thing I was meaning, but I only see them for old phones – can’t believe someone isn’t cashing in on this.
Great idea, I would buy. but I only see some for particular cars, rather than popular ones. Where can we buy these?
Someone like these guys could make stack of money out of this idea.
I doubt the app maker could access that info. Unless the car owners submit it themselves, but there is this atm.
They could use this maybe. https://www.godigit.com/traffic-rules/how-to-find-vehicle-owner-details-by-registration-number
I have this at home
Your Momma / Sister version is better
These are a great idea, I saw a cyclist I may not have seen – so am adding a link to Zakees who do them https://zackees.com/
Seen in Taiwan years ago – not sure if they got to the US though.
I’m a fan of spotting different and interesting cabs when travelling, so this idea reminded me of this article. Some good ones here, but not as cool as the supercar idea. I want a monstertruck cab ride!
The Nissan Land Glider does that and boasts zero emissions.
The anti-roll bar on most cars does this already- its just so good you don’t notice it.
lol, sort of a “car” does this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4bj1eUOXgk
Hmmmm, you can get away with not paying tax by coercing your doc into saying you are “disabled”. Still able to drive though huh?
It exists but you need to keep a car 40 YEARS!
Idea discussed on Reddit, not sure if apple have done it yet though, not sure why, seems obvious.
there are a couple of options here if you can’t find a key that makes a noise when your alarm goes off – check this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyFwK0zzeWc
This guy made a diy version a while back. Free!
already exists, good idea, simple enough to use.
just park app?
Underglow would make them notice you even if they can’t see you!
YEAH NEON UNDERGLOWS FOR INDICATORS!
…. and no, it isn’t going to end traffic jams. Just slow you down and create more.
Your mean the smart traffic sign right? They exist but I don’t know where. As with all Artificial Intelligence, it isn’t easy to identify, its that good!
To be fair, truck drivers have lots of tech to make sure they don’t over do it. You car drivers kill 5000 people a year – in your sleep.
Truck driver fatigue is a leading cause of truck accidents.
The technology has already been developed.
Silly that someone doesn’t incorporate regular parking sensors with the gearbox, so easy to do too. Love the idea, bound to be realised by someone soonish.
300 notes on amazon, you could stash a motorbike in there easily.
Ahh good ole Confucious “Man who walk through airport turnstile sideways going to BANGkok.”
Like this?
High Level Break Lights already standard on many cars. but in the UK, any fitted light must be working to get past the MOT.
THIS. MULTIPLE HONKS
…”Short honk plus medium honk: Your maneuver was unwise, and I am carrying a grudge. Two short honks and a long blast: Your maneuver was unwise, and all that keeps me from exacting revenge is the prison sentence of 25 years to life. Three long blasts: The prison sentence will be worth it. -*- At a traffic light” but the link is broken for me, wish I knew what it said tbh as honking is an interesting way we use to communicate, like whistling.
Couldn’t find anything about what 1 2 and 3 honks mean, but chuffed I found this https://youtu.be/ZIaz96pUUf0
Best to do this virally rather than try to get anyone to change the laws. Anyways, Indians and the like wouldn’t adhere to it, they honk just to announce they are on the road and can’t get it together to agree on which side of the road to drive on. Like the idea though.
They exist and they are a bit pricey – to say the least! https://rvshare.com/blog/8-awesome-car-carrying-motorhomes-must-see/
These 3D illusion of children painted on the road would work better than even speed bumps.
Somehow, I think photos would work better than these silly ones they sell.
This is genius!
These exist and they look comfortable
God, these are a thing – when 1 motor just isn’t enough!
Yep, gloves and contactless seem safe enough.
This, but it is limited to the fact that most car parks don’t digitally monitor if it has spare places, or where they are.
Looks like these are a thing now for some vehicles.
I came across this company that develops fully autonomous self-inflating tyres.
http://www.selfinflatingtire.com/
An easier solution may be to just cover the visor in liquiglide?

URRR, Just pictured Clarkson hanging out of a skimpy vest
Blimey!
Wipey are requesting funds to make one of these. They need a light-weight version for mountain bike goggles.
Rainpal sell these already
great idea, maybe a distraction but they launched these just this month.
you can sort of get these now, not sure if you can add any pic or wording from your phone though. would be good for trump fans, when he pops his clogs or loses his nut.
man from quora says yes!
These too, great idea
Check it out on yt
Wow, I think you can get these now, https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/bosch-virtual-car-sun-visor-ces-2020/
Most people won’t know this but you get a stack of branded freebies when you buy a luxury product. YOU are now their AD.
Looks like you just stick them to the ground. why not a wall mounted sensor nobody can reach or break?
Some exist already, would love a spitfire with a modern “heart”.
WANT!
Any car park could do this using Bosch’s solution.
Shell do it with an app, though never thought of this, saves hassle.
Use stashbee to find a slot near you and to rent your slot out.
Australia has a similar system – Smart cameras for detecting distracted drivers.
The UK has AI-powered cameras on roads that can catch drivers using their phone
Check this out! Microsoft and Shell have developed an AI camera system to detect reckless behaviour in gas stations.
AI-powered cameras can be very useful for detecting and clamping down on bad driving habits, especially in countries with high traffic volumes.
Blimey, didn’t realise but you can actually do it here https://www.ukauctionlist.com/category/tags/parking-space
These guys should make their service into an auction so their customers get more money for their space.
Ha, ace idea, and to ‘hold’ your parking space. Genius.
exists already we have one. works well depending on the type of auto you have.
you can get them already
mobility smart sell them
You can buy them on Amazon!
I found this one on YouTube!
Check out this bike helmet with integrated flashing lights!

Found this…
I need one of these. Is this the only product online, or can you buy them elsewhere? Don’t like Amazon btw.
I got these, they work great as they just slip onto your bike
