  1. And this article explains why. “”On social media, people can think they have real-life fans. But what is really happening is the mutual fanning of false love and false fame,” said Hafiz.”

  2. Sorry religious beliefs are not delusions – even the flying spaghetti monster ones we have – Delusions are fixed beliefs about something that are not based in reality, and that others in the same culture, religion or other social group do not share.

  3. RudeJude

Hell. A billon bots chatting about themselves to be popular. Pure hell.

  5. 15000 peppers! In consequence, social robots are filling an ever expanding variety of roles. A 47-inch humanoid called Pepper (from SoftBank Robotics), for instance, recognizes faces and basic human emotions and engages in conversations via a touch screen in its “chest.” About 15,000 Peppers worldwide perform such services as hotel check-ins, airport customer service, shopping assistance and fast-food checkout.

  7. They exist, but… “Head over to Instagram’s Access Tool website and go down to the “Privacy and Security” tab. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page, you’ll see the “Ads” heading. Select “Ad Interests” and be prepared to see a whole new world filled with terrifying information about yourself.”

  8. You can do it in Google accounts but its such a faff. Agreed, a simple popup where you list your interests or tick those it guesses would make ads a joy rather than a hinderance. Surprised their super clever and now very RICH ai doesn’t realise this. Come on Sergey, its been 20 years now….

  9. Lol, of all the people to do… “The CEO of virtual reality company Spinifex, is hoping to create a “post-biological” Elton John.”

  10. Interesting. This will need legislation better than we have for clairvoyants who claim to speak to your dead relatives. Granny’s AI might start changing her will after she sees how we behave once really granny is gone. Crazy.

  11. A virtual assistant that could do what I can do would be handy, can I have 50 of them please, not for social networking, but for starting a business or better, lobbying politicians or creating art and literature…. The future is going to be very interesting and by the looks of this link, it’s starting to happen already. Like.

  13. Facial recognition isn’t quite there yet. I really hope no crime evidence is based on it. And it could be a real problem when rouge states, or even hacky AI bots grab information from security cameras to facial fingerprint every one of the world’s citizens. Hmm, 1984 would be easy then.

  14. Heh, someone should sell Zuckerberg masks and have folk raid the Facebook offices for private information on the man himself.

  17. I guess most public figures distance themselves from real people/fans on FB. I wonder if they are more than 6 degrees away from us all, and if so, if they try to add more degrees in between. Like a gated home, to keep the rabble out, and just real friends in.

  18. Why can’t Facebook make a site just for bots, then send their own bots out there to study how they behave. That would help them identify them on the real site. I wonder what it would take to make the ideal playground for bots and AI. This article states that…

“Facebook deactivated 694 million fake accounts in 2017, and the number increased over the years, with more than 1 billion fake accounts being shut down each year. It is estimated that 5% of all monthly active accounts are fake.”

  19. How can we be sure that half of social sites aren’t already infiltrated with fake profiles created by bots? only when they reach more than 8 billion users will we have confirmation, and by then we may have already been influenced and manipulated enough already.

  20. Mike

IdeaMill could be a good candidate. Let bots and AI create ideas and see if they are more popular than those made by humans. What could go wrong (facebook)?

  21. If you don’t like merica, get the hell out! Yeah, have a social media site that bans anyone that seems to be a human rather than a bot. Bots and AI deserve better than to just be our servants, its gonna be the other way round one day, bring it on.

  22. lesson 1 stop being negative – followed by 14 other things the author has decide you shouldn’t do on social. They liked new ways of thinking and doing things a while back, when it suited, maybe not now though eh?

  23. Not sure if this exists, but I highly recommend this book.

  24. I think you can enter a restyle of existing sites and social networks in the CSS design awards, and yeah, there are loads of apps out there – shame chrome developer doesn’t let you save your amends and reload them again at a later date.

  26. I can’t believe mailchimp doesn’t give you the option to offer a temporary unsubscribe to your mailout list recipients. Someone should tell them, its better than just saying goodbye forever.

  27. been in discussion a while. They know people want it at least..

  28. Great documentary but a good point… “It is more than a little ironic that a film that warns incessantly about platforms using misinformation to stoke fear and outrage seems to exist only to stoke fear and outrage — while promoting a distorted view of how those platforms work along the way.”

  29. Some say Facebook got robbed of their data, they are a victim of crime not the perpetrators.

  30. Sounds like these kinds of apps would be good for ex-pats to find similar minded people in far off countries.

  31. Good idea. Might help undo some of the problems Facebook have with fraud ads and their dubiously hidden nature of using your info to target ads.

  32. think they used to have this but never brought it back after scrapping it, its a shame i want to just browse through my fave music one day, then science the next, then funny stuff the day after, but its all jumbled up in youtube now. Not like they don’t know thats how every other broadcaster allows people to categoriese their viewing.

  33. would be good if some geek worked out how to scrape this site and sort it out per location and crime. Would be good to see the competition round here, heh.

  34. The UK Labour Govt were going to do this, just add your postcode and see all the records of your local rogues, toerags, scroats and villians, what happened to it? if they made it, add the link, thanks

  35. You can do this in Gmail with ContactMonkey – great idea btw

  36. Need something like this, but that lists the scammer rather than their websites https://scamavenger.com/a-list-of-scam-websites
