“Future civilizations – better civilizations than this one – are going to judge all men by the extent to which they’ve been artists. You and I, if some future archaeologist finds our works miraculously preserved in some city dump, will be judged by the quality of our creations. Nothing else about us will matter.”
Although apparently written with a thin magic marker on the back of a piece of toilet paper, this single page from the Fall 2004 issue of the Backwards City Review is Vonnegut’s attempt to explain that unanswerable question that annoys all artists: “Where do you get your ideas from?” Where do ... AI is revolutionizing space exploration, from autonomous spaceflight to planetary exploration and charting the cosmos. ML algorithms help astronauts and scientists navigate and study space, avoid hazards, and classify features of celestial bodies.
According to this, it may be wise to continue with normal learning so we don’t rely on our future masters too soon. Being human is fun, we don’t want that being taken away from us, especially with creativity and knowledge. No?
“What you are going to have are six people in a Mars mission. Are you really going to have all the different skills that are needed within the crew?
Well, we want to have one person with medical skills, one who is a biological researcher, one who is a field geologist, one who is good at fixing electronics, and one who is good at fixing the plumbing.
But how about a welder? There are thousands of skills that are necessary to make a civilization, and you cannot put them all in six people.
With artificial intelligence, a person can have hundreds of skills because artificial intelligence equips him or her to do all sorts of things instead of just a few things.
I think this is going to be extremely useful for both Mars explorers and for Mars settlers.” DR Zubrin

Just found where I first heard this idea, see the link – “People talk about the threat to humanity today, about things like resource exhaustion or climate change. Sure, those are of some interest, but none of those were the cause of the great disasters of the 20th century. The great disasters of the 20th century were not caused by resource exhaustion or global warming. They were caused by bad ideas, and in particular one bad idea in a number of different forms, which is there is not enough to go around and so we need to fight it out. I believe that this fundamental bad idea is the source of both world wars, the Holocaust, the cold war. If you think you are going to have to fight it out with another country, the only question is when, to one side or the other, sooner will be better than later. And there you have it.”

I agree with the idea that it’s unnatural, but it wasn’t Vonnegut, as far as I know, who said it (first).

We might need this sooner than later, especially given that the earth is on the verge of becoming uninhabitable due to climate change!
Terraforming can make the search for habitable worlds in the space frontier easier.
Given how powerful the human mind is, I am scared to think what people could get up to with a shared consciousness!
Others think that we hallucinate our reality, so whatever consciousness humans have might not even be real.
Some scientists believe we already share consciousness; it’s just that we might not realize it yet!

I found this interactive life map. As you can see, evolution is a complex web.
Darwin’s tree of life has so many branches that calling it a tree is a simplification of the evolution process.
