Chiba, Japan, has the most extensive suspended monorail system in the world. It “flies” over the city streets like something out of a sci-fi movie. Here’s how it looks, inside and out.
UP MTech student Ramansh Bajpai created a ‘transparent’ concrete which is 23% stronger, 15% lighter and free from carbon dioxide! It is also much cheaper and can reduce electricty use by 30%.
Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) has an ambitious new project in China that consists of three new mesmerizing skyscrapers linked at multiple points by skybridges.
Cold temperatures, biting wind, heavy snow and slippery roads are the common challenges that trouble or even interrupt winter commutes. However, for students and faculty at a college in Northeast China, who have been severely affected by the recent cold wave and blizzard, their commute has been made... Read more
The London Tall Buildings Survey, published by New London Architecture, provides a detailed insight of the new skyscrapers. MailOnline has taken a look at the projects currently in the works.
[Matt] wanted to drive a Yuji LED array. The LED requires 30 V and at 100 watts, it generates a lot of heat. He used a Corsair water cooling system made for a CPU cooler to carry away the heat. The…
The HydraLux lightbulb is, according to its manufacturer Eternal LEDs, the world’s first liquid-cooled bulb. Liquid cooling is usually reserved for machines which need to shift a lot of heat, and fast: Car engines, high-end gaming rigs and Cray supercomputers. So why an LED lightbulb? It seems tha... I know water cooling grow lights is an esoteric concept, as just about every other company in the world only makes lights that are air cooled. I decided to write a bit on this topic to help explain liquid cooling grow lights and why and when you may want to do it instead of air cooling. First, let... Read more
Through the art of applying assumptions which restrict the orbital shape and relative inclination of celestial bodies such as the Earth and Moon, trajectory prediction of small bodies of comparatively negligible mass (i.e., a satellite) within a multi-body gravitational system is possible. So sad “For NASA and the United States, losing the space station would mean the forfeiture of more than $100 billion invested in developing the facility and billions more in provisioning and inhabiting the station. NASA has used the space station for myriad purposes, from a platform to conduct more than 2,500 science experiments to testing human health during extended human spaceflight.”
How to save the International Space Station and prevent the dreaded “gap”
Paul Ezra, Winamac, Ind., recently used 100 old wrenches to weld up this settee he made just for fun. He's since made a chair and coffee table out of old wrenches, too.

Good lord. they even have a governing body to make sure those little bots don’t get hurt. Or is it to protect the geeks that make them? The online contest idea sounds good though.
Maybe don’t even bother with actual artefacts and exhibits just have virtual environments and activities. This place looks amazing and not boringly stuck to historic stuff. We need museums of the future and this is maybe how we could do it(?)
Just a stack of these in a room wired to tablets would do the trick. The site could stream the events, make videos and make advertising revenue from someone’s garage.
First round with each build I let my boy use the instructions as its a good way to learn – then he looks forward to the second build, without instructions as its a new challenge, better is that he gets to explore and “make it even better than lego does” usually with bigger guns or boosters 😉

I’ve done this myself before – they should have competitions for new builds where the winner gets it closest the fastest. I would watch that all day if it was on LEGO’s YouTube.
Some bolts do have numbers on them but this causes confusion to those not educated about basic engineering. They represent strength not size. Why not use color coding?

The uses for duct tape seem to be endless. From the Apollo missions in the 1970’s to the International Space Station today, duct tape has been used as quick fixes and semi-permanent solutions to a variety of tasks. In a story released today from NASA documenting the events of the Apollo 17 in 1972... Read more
I have been looking for a site that does this for years now. Best I come up with is this answer on stack exchange / patents “Yes, there is a list. No, it is not exhaustive. In fact, the patent system is expressly designed for this purpose. We want people to know about expired patents and to use them as they see fit. The USPTO Patent Database provides patent images for all patents since 1970, and text files for all patents since 1976. Every patent issued before 4/10/2000 (as of this writing) is expired. Some patents after that date are expired, depending on whether the patent has been abandoned. There is no list of every single expired patent, but you can produce a list of the bulk of expired patents, and then search more recent ones on a case-by-case basis as necessary.”
The International Space Station was hit by an unknown object and left it with a 2mm hole. If the problem was left unfixed, the crew would have run out of air in just 18 days.
C’mon UK Govt, we pay you to manage this information, it would be easy to just feed it as RSS on a site for all to use. After all you do want innovation right?
This Chinese train does not just float upside down; it also has transparent cabins with clear glass bottoms.
Here is another floating train system in Japan.

These floating “upside down” trains have been around for a while. The oldest one is in Germany and still operational.
Check this out: China has a suspended railway system whose trains float upside down!

Vancouver has a pretty popular sky train service.
Translucent concrete is a technology that can make buildings brighter and more energy efficient.
This is so cool! A wonder of modern architecture.
Skyscraper bridges are an interesting and futuristic concept for urban cities.
Here’s another hanging bridge project in China that will connect 3 skyscrapers.

Check out these two skyscrapers in New York that will be connected by a 630-foot-high skybridge!

With hanging bridges, you can say goodbye to harsh weather when moving from one building to another.
Skybridges are a fantastic idea that can help connect buildings with crowded skyscrapers.
Make a SUN BLASTER!
15 years old now., great idea though
TBH I didn’t realise they were so cool. pun intended. Great idea and now an invention and a key problem solver for grow lighting.
Shock-absorbing barriers should be the international standard for all roads worldwide – it could potentially save thousands of lives every year.

We can say goodbye to traffic congestion with a system like this. They should be deployed on all busy roads!
Wow! This is a cool system to help control traffic during rush hours or in case of accidents and other emergencies.
Check out this concept for smart, automatic road dividers powered by the Internet of Things.
Also perfect for people suffering from physical disabilities that make walking and other use of their limbs impossible or difficult.
Wow, check out these exoskeletons at work. They should be made mandatory for all workers engaged in heavy physical labour.
This isn’t a stupid idea. It could serve to use the free parking spots we didn’t realise we needed. Read this paper https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11071-022-07829-1

ahh, yes, the “international” problem was always going to break some hearts. Like any relationship. Get over it I guess.
Better do that before it goes up for grabs….
THIS IS COOL
Good lord. they even have a governing body to make sure those little bots don’t get hurt. Or is it to protect the geeks that make them? The online contest idea sounds good though.
You should tell these guys about this. Wouldn’t cost much to set up if you could use your keyboard to control them without too much latency.
Maybe don’t even bother with actual artefacts and exhibits just have virtual environments and activities. This place looks amazing and not boringly stuck to historic stuff. We need museums of the future and this is maybe how we could do it(?)
Can’t wait till this idea gets spread around and realised everywhere. Especially as they can be animated not just static artefacts.
TREX would look realistic like this video, you don’t need old bones anymore.

why not use color coding like fairing bolts and rawl plugs?
this…

nice idea… 1500 years ago, still a good one now. not done enough.
GREAT IDEA, DIDN’T REALISE THIS EXISTED. CLEVER USE OF SOMEONE ELSE’S GROUND SPACE.
Another way to do it is by sliding the phone across a surface.
Install the ruler app, it works using your camera
it’s unimaginatively named “Measure” looks good.
This is cool, on android.

duct tape, the life-saver

This is the video I saw the crew member fix something with good ole, “gaffa tape”. Priceless
This got me thinking, I like the photo frame idea in this article, could use up heaps of old wrenches making them for family.
