This is a perfect idea! Most accidents are caused by careless driving, and seeing the aftermath may be just the shock drivers need to be more careful on the roads.
New report shows leading cause of deadly crashes in South Carolina
The Founder and Convener of the Green Republic Project, Mr Nana Yaw Osei-Darkwa, has called on the Ministry of Roads and Highways to develop a policy that will make it obligatory for road contractors to plant trees along the roads they construct.
Solar roadways have been promoted as a way to fight climate change, put people to work and make driving safer. But on closer inspection the reality is less than impressive.
MAARTENSDIJK, Netherlands (AP) — Authorities in a central Dutch province opened what they are billing as the world’s longest solar bicycle path Wednesday, mixing sustainable energy with emission-free travel.
car.jpg CORVALLIS, Ore. – Countdown timers that let motorists know when a traffic light will go from green to yellow lead to safer responses from drivers, research at Oregon State University suggests. The findings are important because of mistakes made in what traffic engineers call the “dilemma... Read more
Smartphones have become one of the biggest threats to pedestrian safety. Short of banning their use on the roads, this could be the next best solution!
Even though road signs already tend to be highly reflective, some night-time drivers still don’t notice the things. New technology could help, as it causes signs to reflect in an attention-getting rainbow of changing colors.
“Justice Lang ruled that Streetspace (cycle lane scheme in London) “took advantage of the pandemic” to push through “radical” and permanent changes to London’s roads. And a lawyer in the case said the scheme – and others like it – could now be scrapped across the UK.”
Capital’s Covid cycle lanes ‘unlawful’ (what does this mean for Brighton and Hove?)
I thought this after visiting the High Line in NYC. Cyclists, scooterers and skaters should be welcomed. It would reduce the number of crossings needed in busy inner-city areas and also provide each street with 2 levels of shopfront.
they should make software for cars that teaches you to drive and also to administer your driving test, agreed. One day there will be better than the games you can currently play to get a sort of feel for driving. Not sure if you will need a licence in the future with self-driving cars though (?)
Good idea, and I am surprised there isn’t a type of car that is equipped to help teach driving skills. As far as I know, people use driving simulators and games to learn the basics, but that is before they get in a car. Not ideal. DriveSim is one example.
The simulation program DriveSim allows you to practice driving as if you were commanding a real vehicle, thanks to its realistic situations and environment.DriveSim scenarios include real traffic and pedestrians. With this program, you will have the positiblity of doing different tours with any cl... Read more
Sadly, some people are too distracted on the road they are unlikely to notice them.
This is a perfect idea! Most accidents are caused by careless driving, and seeing the aftermath may be just the shock drivers need to be more careful on the roads.
We can create net zero-carbon roads worldwide by planting trees along all highways and streets.
How about taking roads underground and turning the space they occupy into green parks?

Check out this CO2-absorbing concrete we could use to create buildings that suck carbon from the air!

Scientists have discovered an asphalt that can suck CO2 from the air, making it the perfect road surface material!

Solar roads are a great concept in theory, but they face many challenges that make them less efficient than regular solar panels.
China also tried something similar a few years back with a solar highway.
It has been done. The Netherlands has a bicycle path made of solar panels.
Traffic light timers are common but should be adopted as the international standard worldwide.
Countdown timers can reduce cases of drivers attempting to “beat” traffic lights before they turn red.

Shock-absorbing barriers should be the international standard for all roads worldwide – it could potentially save thousands of lives every year.
Check out these impact-absorbing road barriers in action.
Some guard rails end up causing more damage during a crash, especially to motorcycle riders.

We can say goodbye to traffic congestion with a system like this. They should be deployed on all busy roads!
Wow! This is a cool system to help control traffic during rush hours or in case of accidents and other emergencies.
Check out this concept for smart, automatic road dividers powered by the Internet of Things.
How about these crosswalk barriers? They can be an excellent way to protect pedestrians, whether they are paying attention or not.
They are also being used in Germany!
In-ground pedestrian warning lights are becoming common on crosswalks – several countries, such as China, have deployed them.
Smartphones have become one of the biggest threats to pedestrian safety. Short of banning their use on the roads, this could be the next best solution!
It’s not just roads and streets – we also need colourful road signs that are hard for drivers to miss.

How about this glow-in-the-dark paint for lane marking? Perfect for illumination in areas where there are no road lights.
This is amazing. There’s no way a driver, pedestrian, or cyclist can miss these colours.

Any idea that helps to reduce distractions on the road is amazing. Distracted driving is becoming a huge problem, which is claiming many lives.
A good idea that is being used in China to increase driving skills and improve road safety. Plus, it makes roads very attractive.
Looks like a good idea. Would be great in many cities for sure.
China beat us to it, again.
Councils would use it to spend our money to stop us travelling on roads we have already paid for. Read the article here https://www.theargus.co.uk/news/19030419.londons-cycle-lanes-unlawful—mean-brighton/

read about this SKYLINE idea a while back, could work in some places. I would use them rather than be stuck amongst all those cars.

Some say they are a great idea. I’ve never been on one though.
I don’t like them. for the same reason this guy has. Trucks try to switch lanes at the last minute. Horrible to experience close-hand.
There are already better solutions available. This article spells them out.
High Level Break Lights already standard on many cars. but in the UK, any fitted light must be working to get past the MOT.
