In particle physics there is a popular idea that a symmetry lies between fermions (subatomic particles with half-integer values of intrinsic angular momentum, or spin) and bosons (particles with integer values of spin).
Theoretical physics means you invent answers and spend your life looking for them. Ironically it works better than the old way of waiting to find something when you don’t know what you are looking for.
