Ahh, yes,. the idea of symmetry – changing something but keeping it the same. Not an obvious feature of the universe until you get curious. Great site about it here https://devdude.me/blog/physSymmetries
The last two articles I’ve written for the blog were part of the Particle Physics series. While this article relates to more general physics, we will still discuss conservation laws related to the Standard Model by the end. So if you are interested in particle physics, I hope you’ll find this a ... Read more
“I’m frightened and I cannot sleep,”
the little child said.
“I fear there might be triangles
underneath my bed.”
“There might be ghosts,” the mother mused.
“I cannot speak to those.
There may be ghouls and goblins
who will nibble on your toes.
There could be long-toothed monsters
with their eyes a gleaming red.
But there’s no such thing as triangles!
They’re only in your head.”

While the cube is a wonderful shape, and tessellates 3D space beautifully, it seems a bit boring as a shape for ice to put in your drink. With this π Ice Cube Tray, you can freeze some H2O in the shape of the amazing circle constant, π (other circle constants are available) and wow your party gue... Read more
Saw this idea and then the video and thought the hexagon on Saturn was a hoax or a joke. Google’d it and just became more perplexed than usual. Guess it formed naturally but I wonder if these subtle patterns have created a huge hexagon of stars in some distant, ancient galaxy. This is the link I read about hexagons being everywhere we have looked, so far…
Why is The Hexagon Everywhere? All About This Seemingly Common Shape
Hexagons are mysterious and fascinating in more ways than one. They are also one of the most common shapes found in nature. Let's see how hexagons shape the world around us!

I think it’s about time we stopped embarrassing ourselves by calling helix shaped staircases spiral stair staircases, but that’s just my opinion. Calling a helix a spiral sounds wrong to me. Should helix shaped staircases be called helical staircases? For example, this could be called a heli... Read more
Trust physicists to make a simple concept difficult.
Such a weird concept, transforming something so it’s the same – not everything can do that. Great vid here btw.

Good point/idea. The universe isn’t mathematical, the ideas we have about it, are.

Why GOD only gave us 5, we may never know. They tell us about the structure of OUR universe for sure. Still, nobody knows why 5.

This?
Or make your own shapes… I prefer the lego idea tbh

Someone should add it to Nerdfighter’s lexicon if nothing else.
Love it, “the only regular polygon to tile a plane without resorting to debasing self-division”. Well put. The guy is a legend.
The helix (double helix) staircases were initially called Bramante staircases after the designer who created them.
This thread perfectly explains why they should not be called spiral staircases!
