Exclusive Most small commercial drones have limited flight times because of heavy batteries. But XAir's can fly for hours by coasting on wind currents.
Aircraft safety is a hot topic these days, with Federal Aviation Administration investigators looking into door seals at Boeing, aircraft slides flying off mid air and engine failures plaguing several planes in recent months. But what happens if the power in your plane actually does go out? That’s... Read more
MIT engineers have flown the first silent, fuel-free “ion plane.” The light aircraft is the first plane to fly with no propellers, turbine blades, or other moving parts.
Wind energy is not reliable enough to be used as the sole power source for an aircraft. Not to mention, adding wind turbines to an aircraft would increase the drag, leading to more problems.
Several organizations, especially private companies, have been working on supersonic travel projects. Therefore, we might see another commercial supersonic jet in the skies in the next few years.
NASA and Lockheed Martin formally debuted the agency’s X-59 quiet supersonic aircraft Friday. Using this one-of-a-kind experimental airplane, NASA aims to
I’m thrilled to announce that Virgin has created another world-first with the introduction of the technology required to produce the worlds first glass-bottomed plane. This technological innovation coincides with the start of Virgin Atlantic Airways first ever domestic service to Scotland.
Flying economy is difficult enough for the average passenger. Plus-sized passengers have it even worse. A few weeks ago I wrote about airlines with the least amount of leg room and it really opened my eyes to this fact. Luckily, not all airlines offer a terrible flying experience. Some of them offer... A London based design firm designed seats that could be adjusted to fit oversized passengers, but this just means making everyone pay for the gap in between. This doesn’t seem to solve the problem because now thin people will pay the price and overweight people will still splill into their allotted space, so agreed, someone needs to solve this problem still.
Transforming Airline Seats Adjust Width for Each Passenger
A London design firm has come up with the Transformer of airline seats that would allow an airline to adjust the width of the individual chairs between flights based on passenger needs.
Could hydrogen-powered zero-carbon commuter flights be just around the corner? TIM ROBINSON speaks to stealth start-up ZeroAvia – which this year will test a six-seat Piper single-engined piston aircraft converted to use a hydrogen powertrain in the skies of the UK.
Would it be possible (though not practical) to create a jet that runs on liquid nitrogen that is heated, creating the expansion effect? I believe nitrogen takes up 674 (about) times as much space in
There are exceptions. Air New Zealand once turned a Boeing 777 into a giant ad for Lord of the Rings, Mango, based in Johannesburg, utilises a bright orange hue, while Siberian carrier S7 tends to colour its planes lime green. But the vast majority of passenger aircraft are painted white. Why?
From Heathrow to Fiumicino Airport in Rome – a little over 30 days – rather than 3 hours – people have it good nowadays, partly due to the hard work these facists gits put in.
How long did it take Roman officials to reach Rome from Britain on their way back home? - Quora
Nowadays I found this, if the trip is nowadays: 25 h (2.383,3 km) Am not at all an expert, but for me? Considering everything they needed to bring back, maybe women and children too, some slaves, some food, clothes, weapons (some not on their bodies), and maybe some wounded, some on foot, weeeeeelll... These look cool. Not sure what range they have but I know a guy at work who would love one, He is always jumping out of the office into the carpark to watch planes go over as he has an app that pings him whenever there is something nearby. Last week it was a bunch of ww2 spitfires and before that it was one of those weird jumbos with a big round radar thing on top. He would buy it, but not sure who else would.
WATCHES NEWS !!! Tokyoflash has created a radar watch that scans the skies (or your wrist) Tokyoflash is one of my favorite watchmakers. Unabashedly analog, ...
Airbus claim they are going to make this, one day.
How will they keep the bugs off the windscreen? Airbus unveil the transparent plane we'll be flying around in come 2050 (but maybe not those with a fear of flying)
Here’s another concept: a windowless plane lined with digital screens that project live streams of the outside.
Take a look at this conceptual design of an airship featuring glass-bottom floors.
Virgin Atlantic once teased about this for April Fool’s Day.

(5 upvotes)I found this startup that makes drones powered by wind power.
Glider planes can also fly with the wind, without any engines.
Some planes are fitted with wind turbines to generate emergency power in case of engine failure.
These MIT researchers have done it, but using ion wind propulsion.

NASA has been working on a supersonic aircraft project with a quiet sonic boom to overcome the FAA ban.
Unfortunately, #supersonicflights over land are banned in the USA because the sonic boom is (apparently) too loud.
There used to be one – the Concorde – but the project was discontinued in 2003.
I couldn’t watch it, not after seeing this clip.
I could watch this all day, better through a screen than an awkward window.
Only for those without glass-bottomed planes (which should be an idea on ideamill somewhere).

Nitrogen no, but the age of Hydrogen-powered flight and spaceflight is dawning.
this nitrogen idea keeps coming round, I don’t like it. here’s why:
just wow!
Even just colored planes would be an improvement, though there are reasons they are usually white.
They are missing a trick here – there are loads of aerial advertising types from blimps to banners behind planes. why not underneath jumbos?

off-topic but we’re still finding lost Roman roads just now
The perfect gift for any aviation enthusiast. Not cheap, though!
So glad someone mentioned these, you can get them and use them on the plane but check out some of these weird ones. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuZpuSk_pGA
