Real world junk mail is a huge problem, it wastes resources and most people just put in straight in the bin or hopefully the recycling.
Why can’t we opt out of this spam like we can with emails. Having a sticker next to your letter box or a way of opting out online would be a great idea and if there was also a policy that all undelivered spam had to be returned to the originating company and recycled it would increase their costs and make them reduce the amount they send out.

In the UK, you would need to change a law in favour of people rather than business — so not going to happen. “We are legally obliged to deliver all addressed mail, which includes mail that is addressed “To the Occupier” (or with any other generic recipient information), as well as mail that is personally addressed to you by name.”
Agreed. a simple stick that is recognised by the royal mail, would work to send the spam back to the sender and charge them – to be honest I am surprised the postal service don’t do this as they would make a packet more revenue.
