Don’t have money to pay fines and don’t have a job? Sign up to the community benefiting schemes that the probation service provides. Such as painting over graffiti, clearing rubbish and improving the communal areas around the town.
Otherwise, fines for non-payment of fines just get bigger and bigger with no real way to get out of the downward spiral created by governments and councils that let you commit crimes, as long as you pay them money for it.
Just give them the money or go to jail – even if you have to steal the money – it’s a silly situation in lots of countries and gets exploited by governments time and time again.
There should be a job waiting for anyone that wants to pay off their fines but doesn’t have employment. Any decent society would set that up as soon as they set up the judicial system.
