Have big companies offer a reward for those who save them money
Not sure if this is an urban myth but either way it could be useful…
It is said that Henry Ford offered a reward of a million dollars to anyone who could save the company or make the company more than a million dollars. By searching scrapyards, one man discovered that the king-pins were never damaged and outlived the rest of the car’s components. He reported it to Ford who paid him nicely and ordered that all kink-pins should be made of a less durable material, so that all car parts would fail, on average, at the same time. Why can’t other big firms allow ideas men to find profitable solutions for them, rather than just rely on their employee’s ideas?
IdeaDrop is an ideas management system and they seem to be in the business of helping big firms to reward people for ideas that save them funds. Its a very good idea, though haven’t experienced the service.
Perkpall is a way to reward employees for cost saving ideas.
Virgin have an incentives programme. But someone should make a service or app that lets big firms sign up and send staff and the public to submit ideas that would save them money.
Not sure if this story is accurate but Ford was a master of efficiency. So posting this resource as a link.
