Calculate how much state benefit goes to wealthy landlords via Housing Benefit
In the UK, when I was unemployed, I received about £60 per week in state benefits. My landlord received about twice that each week, around £120. He didn’t have to prove he was worthy of this money each fortnight or be used as a scapegoat for government spending. He is a multi-millionaire now of course, becuase the government channel more money to those who own land or properties rather than those looking for work.
When calculating how much money is spent on unemployment benefit/income support/universal credit, we should also tot up how much more is channelled into the hands of those who lucky enough to be wealthy, especially double-whammy scrounging landlord pensioners.
looks like rich landowners have managed to lobby the government into giving themselves another extra bonus. Crazy, spend it on affordable housing so they can’t keep upping the price of houses and keeping the majority of the population renting, and funding the rich.
Yeah, its a scam that channels more of the welfare budget to the rich – and at the same time demonising those who can’t find work.
” At over £25 billion it is one of the biggest and fastest-growing parts of the welfare bill. That is a huge sum of money: more than we spend on the police, roads and buying military equipment combined. “
