Timeout penalties in soccer
Instead of issuing yellow cards in soccer, the referees should issue a timeout penalty, where the offending player sits out of the field for a few minutes before being allowed back into play. Doing this will help increase discipline in soccer, as players will be less likely to commit fouls that disadvantage their team.
Many premier league managers are opposed to blue cards and timeout penalties, and they might have a point given the current failure of VAR technology.
Professional football leagues have been given the go-ahead to try out sin bins and blue cards to temporarily send players out of the field instead of issuing yellow cards.
