Ask yourself if you are a Dualist (see the video in the article I have linked to) and in the process, you will have just proved there is more to it, than materialism and Phenomenalism. It takes two baby!

There may be a major reason why we have never come across a consciousness without a body to reside in. And that may be, because mind is just a useful adaption that benefited many lifeforms during their evolution. Jury is still out though.
