The ‘Happiness Hypothesis’ – Happiness = pleasure + engagement + meaning
“Father of positive psychology”, Professor Martin Seligman suggests that pleasure’s inbuilt flaw is that it’s fleeting, so to it is added a sense of engrossment and of meaning.
Seligman also indicates you can be happier if you’re willing to engage in exercises such as disputation, which involves challenging negative thoughts, playing to your strengths, and counting your blessings.
“Use your signature strengths and virtues in the service of something much larger than you are.” ~ Martin Seligman
