Equitrade, rather than Fairtrade
“Probably only about 5p of the £1.70 cost of an average fairly traded chocolate bar goes back to the country. The difference with Malagasy equitrade is that 40 per cent of the income from a bar of Malagasy chocolate stays in Madagascar, and the country further benefits because 11 per cent tax is paid to the government.” – Neil Kelsall, a director at Malagasy.
There is a major difference – yeah fairtrade did its bit but we have the future of the entire planet to think about here.
This does a better job of explaining the difference.
Had to look this up, so here is a handy link http://www.justmeans.com/blogs/what-is-equitrade-and-how-does-it-differ-from-fair-trade#:~:text=But%20what%20is%20equitrade%20and,their%20crops%20into%20finished%20goods.
