The initiative, named ‘Mero Rukh Mero Santati’ (Plant a Tree, Leave a Legacy), is aimed at strengthening the connect between parents, children and nature by planting trees to commemorate childbirth, officials said.
Plant a tree, save the Earth, or so the thinking goes. But what if it’s not the right kind of tree? The results could be undesirable — in fact, they might be the polar opposite of what’s good for the environment, according to a new study published…
Trees get hardly any energy or materials from nutrients in the ground. They eat carbon from the air and use sunlight to power up their almighty water pumps. Think how stupid those last folk on Easter Island must have felt, killing that which kept them alive. HA, SO IT GOES.
Trees didn’t exist for the first 90 percent of Earth’s history and before that, Earth was home to fungi that grew 26 feet tall. And adding one tree to an open pasture can increase its bird biodiversity from almost zero species to as high as 80
Heartbroken that one of my mates cut a lovely tree down in his garden just so he could have less shade – ironically he is a bird spotter. Life gets me down sometimes, trees bring me back.
There are loads of good ways drones could be used in the future, including spotting poachers of endangered animals, looks like this idea turned into reality just in time.
You are likely aware that there are many uses for drones outside of film and video production, but you may be surprised how many and how varied the uses are. And the number is growing fast. In fact, according to the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), optimal integration ... Read more
Looks like this can be done now. This article describes the Podder that can fire 2 seeds into the ground per second. I guess you just set it up and it covers the land area required. Amazing.
At the recent ForestTECH 2019 series run for New Zealand and Australian foresters, a US company, DroneSeed, outlined their work with forestry companies using swarms of drones for both planting and spraying. Trials with planting…
A few years ago I wrote a post about a new initiative in Vancouver: using recycled rubber for a sidewalk, on the south side of the 500 block of East 17th. Here is some of what I wrote at the time: …
After dreaming one night about flexible sidewalks made of rubber and later seeing the interlocking rubber flooring at a health club, Richard Valeriano, who as a public works director in Santa Monica, came up with the idea of rubber sidewalks. But…
Garden Tips: Rubbersidewalks are just the tip of the recycled iceberg
Over 10 years ago I wrote a column about Rubbersidewalks, a new product made from recycled rubber tires. They are an interlocking sidewalk paving system designed to save trees by helping ameliorate the problems that arise when roots of street trees heave and crack sidewalks. Too often city trees are... Sixty cities in 15 states are taking a playground approach to sidewalk maintenance. They’re testing rubber sidewalks as a way to avoid the costly repairs of concrete walks that have been broken up by tree roots. Officials say the rubber sidewalks as a win-win. But some residents aren’t so sure.
“Instead of that guy from Salesforce saying, ‘I’m going to put money into planting a trillion trees,’ I’d like him to go and say, ‘I’m going to put my money into helping indigenous people in the Amazon defend their lands,’” Fleischman says. “That’s going to have a bigger impact.”
Planting 1 trillion trees might not actually be a good idea
Whoever wins the election, three things are certain: borrowing is going to rise, taxes are going to have to go up – and there will be a lot more trees. There may even be enough trees to replace those lost to produce all those Lib Dem election leaflets and bogus newspapers. The election campaign ha... Read more
In Uganda, a tree is planted for every child born in Wales. They have planted over 15 million trees so far!
The entire world needs to adopt this strategy!

Planting a tree for every child born can help scale back on the negative impacts of population growth on the environment.
So far there is no proof trees help mitigate global warming – he said it… not me…
The central govt should pay more to councils who plant the most CO2 guzzlers
Good idea, better than paying to “promote” trees instead of just planting and maintaining the things…

I bet they are slagging us right off, and rightly so.
Heartbroken that one of my mates cut a lovely tree down in his garden just so he could have less shade – ironically he is a bird spotter. Life gets me down sometimes, trees bring me back.
Adding a link to a great video of drones creating forests.

Making them isn’t as good an idea as growing them imho.
Still working well in Vancouver. Come on the rest of the world, catch up.

Great idea and this was a thing years ago, why then never caught on I don’t know. maybe they pollute or break easily?

Good cause here helps people do it for themselves
Better still… contests for political parties to promise to plant the most trees.
Great idea, I haven’t found a good free one that covers animals and plants, but there are a few options out there already.
