The offside rule has always been controversial, but it has become much more annoying with VAR, where a goal can be denied because a player is offside by a centimetre. It’s time to do away with this stupid rule and allow more free-flowing play.
The Dutch are considering scrapping it in amateur football to reduce disputes and violence during matches.
I support this! There used to be some controversial calls with assistant referees but VAR has made things worse.
The offside rule has existed for over 150 years, so it is unlikely to be scrapped anytime soon.
